Lifeguard Course

 
Two day course completing both a theory and practical element.
You must be able to:
  • Swim 200m in under 6 minutes  (any stroke).
  • Reach bottom of deepest part of the pool (2m).
  • Tread water for 5 minutes.
  • Swim two lengths of breast stroke and one of sidestroke in lifeguard uniform.
  • Show competence in lifeguard techniques taught.
  • Complete a work book.
  • Have, or obtain a first aid certificate covering units 6400, 6401 and 6402 (at your own cost).

NB: Course qualifies Pool Lifeguard Skills Award (PLSA). In order to become fully qualified with Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate (PLPC) minimum of 20 hrs poolside work must be completed within 18 months at a ‘Poolsafe’ facility and be signed off by a qualified assessor.

Cost of the two day course is $400, which includes all required assessment material and a PLSA certificate on completion of the course. (Price as at 1 January 2017)

What Should I Wear?

Specific requirements of clothing will be arranged beforehand, but as a rule you will need a swimming costume, towel and plenty of water to keep hydrated.
