There’s always something happening at Bay Venues – the kaitiaki of Tauranga’s community facilities – and this summer is no exception.

Here’s a roundup of activities and events to enjoy this summer season…

Get the party started at Trustpower Arena on January 3, 2021 with the annual Bay Dreams festival! With an outstanding mix of artists gracing the stage, it’ll be the perfect way to start the new year.

Got family staying that you need to entertain? Check out the calendar of Speedway events at trustpowerbaypark.co.nz, with 11 more races on the radar there is sure to be a date that suits.

For daytime fun for ages eight plus, head to BayStation. The team have four adrenalin pumping activities to choose from: blokarting, drift trikes, paintball and laser tag. Catering for small to large   groups, visit baystation.co.nz to book or call the team on 07 577 8599 to work out a package to suit your family – catering included.

We’ve also got the littlies covered with Tumble Time at Trustpower Arena and the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre over the summer months. As well as handy, sports-based holiday programmes to keep the kids active and supervised. Visit baykids.co.nz for dates and times.

Another hit with preschoolers will be bestselling author Craig Smith, aka The Wonky Donkey Man, who is hosting a concert of his popular kids’ stories on January 28 at Trustpower Arena. Entry starts at $6 and tickets can be purchased at bayactive.co.nz.

Also, at Trustpower Arena this summer is the Seniors & Travel Expo on February 27 & 28.

When the sun comes out, but you’d prefer not to battle parking at the beach and all that sand, head to one of Bay Venues’ five swimming pools. There’ll be one near you with heaps going on!

Memorial Pool at Memorial Park is an outdoor pool that hosts monthly events over summer. There’s the Family Picnic at the Pool on December 12, Inflatable Fun on January 16 and a Waitangi Day BBQ on February 6.

A popular event with pre-teens is Friday Fun Night at Baywave. Each Friday from 6-8pm the team crank up the music, pull out the bombing platform and fill the pool with inflatables. During the school holidays the aqua play station will be running from 9am to 6pm and the hydro slide will be open from 10.15am to 4.45pm.

Pool inflatables are super popular with the kids and you’ll find them at Greerton Aquatic & Leisure Centre between 12-3pm from December 21 to December 24, and on Wednesday and Friday from 12-3pm from January 11. As well as at Otumoetai Pool between 11am-2pm every weekend between December 19 to January 17.

The Mount Hot Pools are bringing back their popular Soak & Sounds on a Sunday evening from December 20 to January 24. Sit back and relax in the crystal-clear saltwater pools while listening to the smooth sounds of local artists playing poolside.

For those of you anticipating the need to get moving following a decadent Christmas, head along to Clubfit gym at Baywave or Greerton. Casual entry is only $15. From more info visit clubfit.co.nz. Prefer playing sports over hitting the gym? Check out the range of sports leagues starting in February 2020 at bayactive.co.nz.
