Directors of Bay Venues Limited

Bay Venues Limited manages and operates 24 venues within its portfolio, which provide a high standard of sport, recreation, event and exhibition facilities, programmes and services to the residents of Tauranga City and visitors to the area. Bay Venues Limited’s venues include ASB Baypark, Mount Hot Pools, University of Waikato Adams High Performance Centre and Baywave. It also operates a number of community centres, halls and community pools.

Bay Venues Limited’s aspiration is to be the New Zealand leader in customer service experience and in delivering dynamic, innovative and exceptional opportunities for leisure, well being and connectivity.

An exciting opportunity for two new directors on the Bay Venues Limited board has arisen and we are seeking expressions of interest. The Board of Directors is responsible for developing and delivering the strategic and financial management of the company, as well as overseeing the management of Bay Venues Limited’s assets and resources.

We are looking for two new directors to join the Board replacing retiring directors:

• Experience as director of a commercially focused organisation
• A leadership role in the community
• Experience and/or proven understanding of the management of high value / high utilisation assets and infrastructure
• Understanding and empathy with local body governance and legislation
• Experience with and understanding of health and safety legislation and its practical implementation dynamics
• Understanding and enthusiasm for the provision of high quality services and programmes to targeted / identified community organisations
• Understanding and enthusiasm for the promotion of commercially sustainable events/concerts for both the wider community and specific interest groups
• Understanding and empathy with the conduct of significant commercially focused sectors including:
  • Catering
  • Health/Gym Centres
  • Childcare
  • Events/Concerts
  • Aquatic Centres
• Time and passion for the director role and associated community involvement.

Diversity is valued and typical appointed directors:

• Are preferably members of the Institute of Directors (IOD) or a similar professional organisation
• Have an impeccable track record of honesty and ethics
• Have no known conflicts of interest
• Are resident of Tauranga/Western Bay of Plenty, with an understanding of the diverse nature of the local population, and enthusiasm / ambition for Tauranga city and its future developments.

Bay Venues Limited is a Council Controlled Organisation of Tauranga City Council. This is a separate organisation from the council and functions autonomously in accordance with an agreed Statement of Intent.

Meetings are held the first Monday every month although alternative and/or additional meetings may be required.

The positions have a remuneration of $30,000 per director.
