Firstly, the book arrived safely yesterday  - it is absolutely marvellous, couldn't put it down and in the evening there was an instant battle as to who got readership between myself and my dear lady Katharina. It is so useful, ney, vital, that it will accompany us on our July visit to NZ. Congratulations.

I've already used the book's accommodation listings and sent off a couple of enquiries for stays during our visit. But that's not all. It is so packed with shopping hints (my two mum n daughter clothes) plus café and restaurants to visit, food shops to use because we'll be staying in holiday cottages, and not forgetting the "places to visit".

We are now keen to view Mãori film, but tracking examples down here in this very conservative cultural desert that may prove difficult and have to wait until we land on the shores of NZ. However home we have already teased our ears to Mãori music with Moana and the Tribe, The Mamaku Project, Ruia and Carol Storey.

I must tell you that your and Tony's approach to all this has been most refreshing!  As a new tourist business operator, I have been besieged by emails from inbound tourist operators, and others from overseas, all very hard-sell and demanding mega-bucks!!!!  Your approach was low-key and helpful, and you had statistics and your book (which you gave to me free) to back your statements.  AND you are affordable, for a beginner like me.
I am very impressed, and I wish you both very well.  I think you have things just right - for the traveller and the operator.

"I have been using OE every single time, when travelling throughout New Zealand. OE fills a niche in the tourism market and does it perfectly by offering high quality and healthy alternatives to organic-minded persons. Thank you very much for your commitment and great work. I hope to see more of OEs in other countries in the future!"

"I personally prefer books over the internet and I found the publication very handy when touring around NZ. Its always in my glove box."
“I am so glad we have come along for the ride since your very first contact with us. Organic Explorer has become our biggest direct referrer to our own website, and we have had a season of truly wonderful guests”.

“Long live Organic Explorer! May it become the travellers bible, not only for the international but also the domestic traveller. "OE" has put customers in touch with us it has also introduced me to other organic businesses and products, my stock range has developed and evolved because of this”.

"Thank you very much for the (monthly) newsletter. It has given me more useful information in 1 hr of playing around with the links than in hours & hours of searching & researching & messing around with everything from Qualmark enviro criteria to google ad words. Brilliant. Keep it up & thanks so much for your efforts. We really do appreciate good quality information sharing & will most certainly be renewing this year."

“Well done for everything. You have done so well. I just want to acknowledge your efforts for it is obvious when people come into our store via Organic Explorer. The book is really stunning.”

Connecting YOU to NZ’s Expanding Tourism Markets:

Organics, Conscious Tourism and Conservation

The Problem: travel and tourism is one of the largest global threats to our environment, cultures, and landscapes.

Travel and tourism has the potential to be a powerful force for good on the planet. When carefully managed, it can enrich lives, strengthen communities, and conserve resources and heritage. That’s why Organic Explorer exists.

Who we are?

Organic Explorer is the original, definitive New Zealand tourism guide to organic wine and food, artisan retreats, transport and authentic cultural and conservation tourism experiences.

Since 2007 we’ve been creating a different kind of travel experience, by connecting the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) demographic directly with your business - a real connection between people, the landscape, the culture, the food and the environment.

LOHAS constitute 31% of the population and are well educated with an average to high income. They are interested in personal development, health and sustainable living and express their LOHAS values through outdoor experiences, seeking a connection with the landscape and concern about social issues.

What we do?

  • Offer you the only comprehensive publication and website to define the organic and conscious independent traveller
  • Bring the sort of customers you would like to host (and who are looking for you), directly to your business and your website.
  •  We believe for tourism to survive in the long term, it is essential that local communities are economically sustainable. We only serve small-scale New Zealand family-owned and operated businesses - no multinational companies.
  • We are proud to offer OE as an educational tool for tourism, advocating protection of our special places.

"The 'bounce rate' for visitors who are referrals from your site is only 3.7%! I've never seen one under 10% before.
The obvious conclusion here is that there's a very high correlation in terms of our respective target markets (perhaps unsurprisingly), so we're very happy.

“… we got a bit put off by all the irrelevant solicitations of accommodation listings that had to be fielded and rejected as not appropriate for the type of clientele we're seeking). Your site and book are SPOT ON ... a real credit to your vision, initiative and hard work.”

“Organic Explorer is the most comprehensive and versatile website we have ever come across. We are very impressed with the hard work put in constantly to update us and everyone else with all the latest developments in organic living and exploring so we can respect and look after this precious planet. The Organic Explorer book is a real must to have.”

“Long live Organic Explorer! May it become the travellers bible, not only for the international but also the domestic traveller. "OE" has put customers in touch with us it has also introduced me to other organic businesses and products, my stock range has developed and evolved because of this”.

“Fantastic! A website and guide book that is timely, comprehensive and professional. The inclusive and supportive approach of the Organic Explorer team both reflects, and inspires others to achieve a caring and sustainable tourism experience for visitors to New Zealand”.

“Organic explorer has been incredibly well received by travellers staying at my Wellington Guesthouse. It’s added another dimension to the possibilities for customised experiences catering to individual tastes. Its a wonderful pioneering book and website and all praise is well deserved in my opinion”.

“I am now a resident of Coromandel and create ceramic sculptures using local clay and sawmill waste to fire them. My process is almost carbon neutral. I have used Organic Explorer to find accommodation and cafes on my recent travels and on enquiry was pleased to find as an artist I could become a part of this on-line community. Since my listing I have received more visitors to my sculpture garden, more sales, have met like-minded environmentally aware people and made new friends from around the North Island”.

“We have a small organic blueberry farm which we bought 4 years ago. When we bought it the main income was derived from exportation of the blueberries. We felt this was ridiculous and decided to try to increase the local tourist market (from Wellington 30min away) as well as the travelling enviro-tourists. Organic Explorer has helped us to do that and this year we are officially not even having to supply the local shops, every one of our berries is going directly from the fields into the mouths of our customers”.

“Well done for everything. You have done so well. I just want to acknowledge your efforts for it is obvious when people come into our store via Organic Explorer. The book is really stunning.”
