Airport Pickup


For those times when you simply want to have the keys put in your hand and shown to the vehicle... minimum paperwork... no fuss... just you and a beautiful car.

At Smartcars rentals we want to make the experience of vehicles hire just that... an experience.

Our Luxury Airport Meet & Greet Service is so much more; our drivers will make sure that your experience starts before you reach the vehicle. Your dedicated member of staff will meet you as per your instructions to hand you the keys and assist you in any way they can. They shall be only too happy to take your bags to your vehicle and run you through any specifics, paddle shift, sports modes and electric roof down to how to turn the lights on!

The Smartcars Luxury Meet & Greet service delivers that all-important personal touch, offering a smile, local advice and a person that knows you on arrival to show you through the airport to your awaiting luxury transport smoothly.

Airport / Ferry Terminal Service Charges (AFSC)


Rentals commencing at airports and inter-island ferry terminals are subject to a nominal Service Charge (AFSC).


24 Hours Roadside Assistance

All vehicles are covered by 24 hour emergency roadside assistance.


Payment & Deposit


smartcars welcomes Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, American Express, Bartercard, and EFTPOS and Debit cards. We do not accept cash payments. smartcars will retain a non-refundable deposit of $100 on all confirmed rentals. Payment by some credit cards may incur a surcharge. The credit card or debit card must be in the name of the authorised renter. We do not accept personal cheques.
Renters with no credit card or debit card may use a friend or family members credit card. Please contact smartcars prior to your rental to arrange documentation.


Renter Qualification


The minimum rental age is 25 years for all vehicle types. All intending drivers must present a valid full New Zealand Driving Licence, which has been held for at least one year or a current International Driving Licence must accompany driving licence's issued in a language other than English. Additional Driver Surcharge will be charged $5.75 per driver. Minimum rental age and other requirements for additional drivers will be the same as for the renter. Additional authorised drivers must be notified to smartcars and listed on the rental agreement at the time of delivery.


Rate Periods


Rates are based on 24 hour period. Rates include our Standard smartcars Vehicle Insurance. At smartcars we allow a 59-minute frace period, after which an extra hour are charged at one third of the daily rate to a maximum of three hours after which a full day will be charged. On wholesale (inclusive tour voucher) rentals an extra full day will be charged. Petrol is not included in our rates. Minimum rental periods may apply in high season, please check with our booking team for details.


Motor Vehicle Insurance


Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance including third party, is included in our rates. The standard excess is $4,000.00, this can be reduced to $1,125.00 by paying an additional fee.
Insurance
Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance including third party and public liability is included in our rates.  An accident damage excess (ADE) does apply. 
Accident Damage Excess (ADE)
ADE applies to all rentals. This excess may be reduced (at the renter’s option) at the time of rental by purchasing Accident Excess Reduction (AER) or Total Protection Package (TPP) (only applicable to core fleet).  The rates of ADE are subject to change without notice, but current rates (including GST) range from $3450 - $4600.
Important:
The renter will be fully liable for any damage to the smartcars vehicle and any third party property, if the terms and conditions of the rental agreement are breached.

Accident Excess Reduction (AER)
Purchase of AER at time of hire currently reduces the ADE to $575 Every Day Fleet, $1125 Luxury Fleet.
Total Protection Package (TPP)
Purchase of TPP at time of hire currently reduces the ADE to $0.


Fuel


Fuel is not included in our rates. Each vehicle is supplied with a full tank of fuel, which is refilled at the renter's expense on return. If the vehicle is not returned with a full tank, the renter will be charged for the fuel required to refill the tank at the prevailing rate applied by smartcars at the time.


GST Goods & Services Tax


Applied by law to almost all sales within New Zealand [exceptions include some financial arrangements and exports]. The current rate is 15% - for a $100 item the total cost is $115.00. All rates quotes on our website are inclusive of GST.


Intercity (One Way) Rentals


Intercity [One way] rentals starting in Auckland and Queenstown are available. Minimum rental periods and additional fees may apply. See our Distance Chart for approximate distances between cities and International Airports.


Cancellation / No Show Fee


In the event this booking is cancelled within 48 hours of scheduled pickup or if a booking is not cancelled and the customer does not pick up the vehicle (no-show), the customers credit card will be charged with a cancellation fee equivalent to the first days rental charges (as calculated should the rental have taken place). The standard credit card surcharge will apply.


Kilometres


All Every Day Vehicles include unlimited kilometres. The Luxury/Convertible Fleet includes 100km per day and additional kms are charged as $0.85 per km.
A Road User Charge may apply for Diesel vehicles. 


Smoking Policy


Please note that smartcars has a non-smoking policy for all vehicles. A $250 cleaning fee will apply.
