This workshop builds on the NZLS CLE workshop Mediation for Lawyers Part A which provided opportunity to understand the process of mediation and to learn to think like a mediator – not a lawyer. It provides further opportunity to observe a mediation, to dissect it and to practise mediation skills – this course will be run in streams according to candidates’ preferences. Finally participants will be involved in a moderated assessment exercise – where they will go on learning but also be the mediator whose performance is being assessed. The assessment, carried out by an experienced mediator, involves reflection and a written report.

This workshop runs from Friday evening until 5.00pm on Sunday. For the first two days a range of techniques will be used to demonstrate, discuss and practise skills. The Sunday will be almost entirely taken up with assessment exercises. Registrants must be present for the whole day. Places are strictly limited.
Before the workshop you will be sent, for prior review, the course materials which include a folder, and the text Mediation Skills and Strategies. All participants also need to be thoroughly conversant with the coverage from the Part A workshop and the course text Mediation: Principles, Process and Practice. If you have been exempt from Part A you must be familiar with the course text and earlier materials. Please tick the boxes on the registration form, as required.

Please note: Minimum and maximum numbers apply. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come/first-served basis. Registrations close 10 working days before the presentation date (the closing date). NZLS CLE Ltd reserves the right to cancel any session that does not reach the budgeted minimum number of registrations. This decision will be made on the closing date and a full refund will be made to each registrant of the cancelled session. If you cancel your registration before the closing date, a refund will be made, less a $100 administration fee. After the closing date, there will be no refund. You may transfer your registration until five working days before the presentation. Please advise NZLS CLE Ltd in writing of the change.
