The new Land Transfer Act 2017 modernises, updates, and amends the current legislation, with a greater focus on the electronic environment. Over 10 years in the making, the Act received Royal assent on 10 July 2017 and it is expected to come into force in November 2018. An understanding of the new legislation is critical for all those working in property law, including lawyers, legal executives and surveyors.

This seminar provides a comprehensive introduction to the new Act. The presenters will guide you through what has and has not changed, what you need to know, what you need to do, and where to get more information.

  • New terminology and concepts
  • Indefeasibility and new ‘manifest injustice’ provisions
  • Definition of fraud, and compensation arrangements
  • New regulations and Registrar-General of Land standards
  • Withholding landowner information
  • Covenants in gross and encumbrances
  • Case studies and practical issues

  • Agreement for sale and purchase and settlement guidelines
  • Registrar-General of Land powers, including withholding information.
