Wharerangi Philosophy
Our children and whānau will belong to a calm, engaging and colourful community where children learn through play supported by teachers who are nurturing and passionate.

Calm is a mindful atmosphere that nurtures the senses.

Engaging is the freedom to interact with people, places and things.

A colourful community is connecting with others: a place for all.

A nurturing teacher builds intimate relationships while holding the space.

A passionate teacher is an evolving teacher.

Play is Learning

Play is the work of children which nurtures and grows the whole child.

Play is an essential part of a child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.  At Wharerangi Kindergarten play is a vital part of every child's development.  It allows them to test ideas, work through uncertainties, explore social interactions and make sense of the world around them.

Play has no predetermined outcome or time limit.  It is not about an end product but about a process.  It's the exploration of ideas that is crucial.

Play is children's work.

“ thank you so for guiding and loving our boys while they attended Wharerangi Kindy. You all have the biggest hearts and were so welcoming to our family. Love the Moores.

“what a wonderful group of teachers you are that create such a warm, welcoming and fun space at Wharerangi. Thank you for all the love support and learning you have provided our whole family. We go on to this next adventure knowing our son is ready – socially, mentally and physically - a HUGE part of which is down to you all.
Love the Hutchings”.

“the staff and students thank you very much for all your support. You help us to achieve our vision of “Growing good people for a changing world” . Tamatea High School.

'I would like to say an enormous thank you to the amazing teachers at Wharerangi Kindergarten. They organised a wonderful excursion for our children today - a bus ride to the marine parade for morning tea, a tour of the city in the Hawkes Bay Express (road train) and returned us all safe and sound to the kindy in time for lunch - all this was done whilst dressed in the beautiful art deco's clothes that they supplied for the children. Our children (and parents) had a fantastic morning - all thanks to the hard work of the kindy staff Kirstie, Marg, Tina, Estelle and Fiona. We are extremely fortunate to have such caring, fun loving teachers educating and nurturing our wee ones.' D Pollard,
