Eskview Kindergarten

Welcome to Eskview Kindergarten

Eskview Kindergarten (located in the Bay View township) encompasses both local and rural surrounding districts and operates within a peaceful, positive environment which supports and stimulates children’s curiosity, wonder and awe in the world around them.

Our kindergarten acknowledges the importance of fostering warm, reciprocal relationships, both with the children and their families, and the vibrant local community. Our strong links between the community, families and the kindergartens are maintained though our regular community events, events which really highlight the notion as this is a place of belonging – this is our place.

We welcome interested families to visit us here at Eskview Kindergarten.

Our Session Times Are:
Monday to Friday: 8:30am to 2:30pm

Our Staff To Child Ratio:
We have a ratio of 1 teacher to 10 children, with additional non teaching support as well.

Eskview Philosophy:

We provide a colourful and creative learning environment; rich in opportunities for children to be curious and stimulated within a harmonious atmosphere.  We promote a respectful kindergarten, reflective of and embracing the local community and environment, which acknowledges the dual heritages of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our Vision:

Learners for Life

Our Favourite 2019 ERO Comments:

A range of meaningful learning opportunities enrich the curriculum. Children are empowered to lead their own learning. Teachers value children’s ideas, choices and opinions. Effective use is made of learning conversations to encourage children to problem solve and to extend their thinking. Literacy, mathematics, science and creative expression are strong features of the local curriculum.

Māori children experience an environment where their language and culture is affirmed. Connections between Māori ways of being and sustainable practices support children’s knowledge of Māori world views. Children have many opportunities to learn about local places of significance.

Partnerships with parents and whānau are based on mutual respect. Teachers effectively respond to parent aspirations. Assessment documents children’s emerging interests and engagement in the life of the kindergarten. Hard-copy portfolios are regularly accessed by children and whānau are encouraged to contribute to and share children's learning experiences. Further strengthening of assessment, planning and evaluation is needed to clearly show children's deepening complexity of learning.

Warm and caring relationships between children and teachers provide a strong foundation for learning. Inclusive practices support all children to participate fully in all aspects of the programme. Teachers' work diligently to make children's transitions into and out of the kindergarten a positive experience.

Testimonial:

We have two girls who have attended Eskview Kindergarten from 2013 to present and we have found the time they have spent there to be enjoyable, worthwhile and a crucial part of their development. Eskview kindergarten clearly invests in the children who attend to help them prepare for future success. Te Whāriki, the foundation of the Early Learning Program at the Kindergarten supports the children's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. This is evident in many of the play and learning opportunities at the Kindergarten from outdoor play, arts, crafts gardening and the many differing activities set out each day for the children to explore.

We have found that our two girls are happy to attend sessions at the Kindergarten. They are confident to share their likes and experiences with the teachers proving to us that they feel safe and supported in their learning environment, and their ideas are highly valued.  Staff are very warm and approachable, providing support to parents by making the time to discuss any matters raised. Eskview Kindergarten has been delovoping their links with local schools and increased involvement with these schools. This has clearly aided in providing a smooth transition from Kindergarten to school. It enables the children to become familiar with the school environment, teachers and other students before they attend, building excitement for this special time in their lives.
