Resources to Help You Manage COVID-19 at Home

For most people, and especially for those who are vaccinated, COVID-19 infection will cause mild cold-like symptoms. The vast majority of those who contract COVID-19 over the coming weeks can safely isolate at home and successfully manage their symptoms with paracetamol, hydration and rest. A small number of patients will become more unwell, so it is important to know what to look out for and when to get in touch with a health professional. Self management is now the default standard of care, however we are here to help - if you have worsening or severe symptoms at any point, please call our clinic on (09) 630 6981. After hours you can call for assistance on 0800 687 647.

Click on this link to take you to our detailed COVID-19 Resource page, which includes information about preparing for COVID-19 in your home, managing illness in adults + children, and contact details for welfare services.

Mt Eden Village Doctors FAQ

General booking information during Covid pandemic

We are following advice provided by the three Auckland District Health Boards to ensure we continue to meet your health needs in a safe, protected environment. This is a time of frequent change, and we will adapt our processes as the need arises. Regular updates will be provided here. Your health and safety, and the health and safety of our staff, is paramount.

At this time:

You should contact us if you have a health need - we are here to help and can guide you as to the best process for assessment

If you have respiratory or flu-like symptoms (sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell) you need to have a swab. We are running daily Covid swabbing clinics - please phone our receptionist to make a free appointment for this, or book online using our booking system (please select an appointment under Covid Swab Appointment template). Note that these clinics are strictly for undertaking Covid swabs - a separate appointment will be required if you have other health issues that need addressing. All activity related to Coronavirus is free - if you have symptoms and need review you will not be charged for an assessment or swab.

We are offering face-to-face, video and phone consultations. We will be separating all patients with flu-like symptoms from those without. If you have flu like symptoms it is extremely important that you wait in your car or our car park, wear a mask, and phone our receptionist when you arrive to advise of your location.

Virtual consultation links will be sent to you prior to your appointment if you have advised our receptionist or indicated online that you wish to have a virtual (video) consult. If you have not received this ahead of your appointment time, please contact our receptionist.

When attending our clinic for any reason, including consultation and vaccination, please wear a mask, wait in your car or the car park, and phone our receptionist to advise of your location. We will ask you a series of screening questions and will advise you regarding the best location for waiting and assessment. We have limited waiting room capacity and may be able to invite you into our waiting room, however for your safety and the safety of our patients and staff, please come prepared to wait in your car or the car park as this may be required.

It remains important to continue with flu vaccinations and childhood immunisations. Please book an appointment with our nurse for these.

Can I get a Covid RAT or swab at the Practice?

Each day we are running a dedicated Covid swabbing clinic, for undertaking RATs. To make an appointment for this please phone our receptionist or book online. It is free to have an assessment and swab for Covid and all patients with respiratory symptoms are strongly recommended to have a swab. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions related to this process. Due to the nature of these swabbing clinics we are unable to assess other health needs in the same appointment. If you have other health concerns, please book a separate appointment.

How can I get a Covid-19 vaccination?

We are pleased to offer Covid-19 vaccinations at our clinic to enrolled and non-enrolled patients. Please phone our receptionist to make an appointment for your vaccination. We are running Covid-19 vaccination clinics at variable times throughout the week, Monday through Friday.

Vaccinations are one of the most powerful tools against Covid-19. If you are aged 5 and over you can protect yourself, your family and your community by booking an appointment for a free Covid-19 vaccination.

A lot of misinformation is circulating about the Covid-19 vaccination. It is important to get evidence-based information from reputable sources. The following links may be helpful in answering any questions you have, however if you have further questions or are undecided about vaccination please do not hesitate to reach out to our clinic or phone the Covid Vaccination Helpline on 0800 28 29 26.

How do I book an appointment?

You can book appointments for phone, video and face-to-face consults online or by phoning our receptionist. At the time of booking please advise of your preferred consult type.

Covid swabs can be booked via our receptionist, and registered patients can also book using the online booking system (select Covid Swab Appointment template). Covid vaccinations are booked by phoning our receptionist.

If you need to be assessed and you do not see any appointments available online please phone us - we have a number of appointments reserved for patients who become acutely unwell on the day.

Do not hesitate to contact us about any health need, whether it is Covid related or not.

If you need assessment or swabbing because of a flu like illness we will provide this - there is no cost for this service.

Will there be a cost for telehealth (phone and video) consultations?

All consultations related to Covid are free - you will not be charged for an assessment or swab when you present for review of flu like symptoms. However, normal charges apply for face to face, telephone and video consultations which are not Covid related. We can email your invoice to you following your consultation. Phone and web based consults are ideal for patients who do not require an examination. If you book a virtual consult and you are not available for examination but your Doctor feels it is important that you are assessed in person, you will be asked to return for a subsequent appointment (additional fee will apply).

How can I get a prescription?

We provide repeat prescriptions for a limited number of stable ongoing conditions according to our practice policy - please see the Repeat Prescription heading under the Info tab. If you need a repeat prescription and you believe an appointment isn't required, please phone or email our nurse (nurse@mtedenvillagedoctors.co.nz). Please allow at least 24 hours for processing your repeat prescription request. We will either email your prescription to you, or text it to you or your chosen pharmacy. When we send it directly to a pharmacy at your request, you will receive a text to advise you that it has been processed. Please ensure you provide your mobile phone number with prescription requests.
