Big scholarship award for CardenJULIA WADE 13 June, 2022
A hardworking local girl has earned herself a coveted long-term placement for one of Auckland’s prestigious colleges. Mangawhai Beach School (MBS) Year 8 student, Carden Kidd, has been awarded the St Cuthbert's Trust Board Boarding Scholarship for Year 9, in 2023. A five year appointment worth $95,000, the scholarship is largely contested nationwide by applicants vying for the single available placement. St Cuthbert’s director of admissions and scholarships, Ann Louise Jordan, says the school is very pleased that Carden will be joining the college in 2023. “Her warmth, keenness to learn and passion for dancing are a great fit with St Cuthbert’s.” Carden is understandably ecstatic about being selected. "I am very excited and thankful I have received the scholarship. St Cuthberts will be a place where I can reach my full potential and make many lifelong friendships along the way,” she says. “I am already so proud to call myself a St Cuth's girl!" To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must demonstrate motivation and good achievement at their local school and live more than 30km from the college. As Carden has full board she has the option to stay at school on weekends though her naturally proud parents, Autumn and Richard Kidd, say their daughter will most likely come home to Mangawhai every Friday evening. “We are pretty sad to think about her being away five nights a week but we know it will be so worth it, and she definitely has the right personality for it. She is so excited, and if she's happy we're all happy!” Autumn says. "We are so grateful Carden has been given this opportunity, she is such a hard worker and we know she will absolutely thrive at St Cuthbert's College.” MBS principal Aaron Kemp says the school is ‘super excited for Carden’. “We are over the moon! Carden is a well-deserving student who is kind, caring, considerate of others and always displays our CREW values. She will be an asset to St Cuthbert's College as she has been for us at Mangawhai Beach School.” Congratulations Carden!
