Budding young thespians will not be able to take to the stage these coming summer holidays, as Covid-19 claims the lead role yet again.
Otamatea Repertory Theatre’s (ORT) annual 2022 youth programmes have unfortunately been forced to cancel, ORT co-director Maura Flowers says.
“We are disappointed to announce that we will be taking a break from Youth Theatre this January. However, the popular programmes will return as soon as we are able to present them safely - and with certainty.”
The five-day program offers all elements of theatre experience, including acting, singing, prop-making, choreography and costuming, and closes with a show performed by the children.
Also fallen to the pandemic is Mangawhai’s regular sell-out Christmas Carol concert, held in recent years at the Village Library Hall. Organised by Maura and ORT co-director, husband Peter Flower, the show features a showcase of east-Kaipara and Otamatea musical talent and also raises funds for local charities, such as social support and advocacy agency, Te Whai Community Trust.
“It’s very disheartening… it won’t feel like Christmas without our lovely concert. However, we wish you all a happy and healthy holiday break and all the very best for the new year ahead.”
