Orange painted shoes, boots and jandals of all sizes and genders have adorned the Mangawhai Golf Club’s border along Molesworth Drive for over two weeks, the brightly-coloured, eye-catching display serving to highlight a critical campaign by the Zonta Club of Mangawhai.
From November 25, Zonta clubs worldwide have taken part in 16 days of activism which aims to inspire action in a step to end gender-based violence. Local Zontians also had an information stall at the Tavern Market on November 25, and by mid-December will be installing signs in female toilets with emergency information for women at risk. Mangawhai Zonta Club Advocacy Chair, Liz Holsted, says the signs are a huge resource to help stamp out violence against women, and after paying for a large number of them the club are ‘stoked’ that Kaipara District Council ‘have come on board’ to help with funding.
